The Best Skincare Routines for Spring

Winter is leaving, but the heating air will linger for a few more weeks. During this transitional period, many make the same mistake: they completely change their skincare routine in one day just because the sun is shining outside. The skin reacts promptly. Blemishes, a feeling of tightness, sometimes both at the same time.

What the change really needs is one thing: a bit of patience.

What Changes in the Skin During Spring

As temperatures rise, the skin starts producing more sebum again. The humidity increases, and the skin loses less water to the environment. The rich winter cream that was a lifesaver in January now sits like a film on the skin and can clog pores.

At the same time, after months between heating and cold, the skin barrier is often compromised. A radical change is not well tolerated right now.

Transition in Three Steps, Not in One Day

Step 1: Change the Texture

Swap the rich cream for a lighter emulsion or gel. The rest of the routine remains unchanged for two weeks. This way, you can immediately see if the skin tolerates the change.

Step 2: Gentle Exfoliation

Winter leaves behind a layer of dead skin cells that make the complexion look dull. A mild chemical peel, once or twice a week, is sufficient. PHA or lactic acid are gentler than glycolic acid and are a better choice for compromised winter skin. It's best to avoid harsh scrubs altogether.

Step 3: Antioxidants in the Morning

More sun means more free radicals. A serum with Vitamin C or green tea in the morning captures some of them and makes tired winter skin glow. Follow with moisturizer and sunscreen.

Sunscreen: Daily from Now On

UV exposure increases significantly from March, long before it feels like summer. Waiting until June to start using sunscreen can lead to the first damages in spring. SPF 50 should now be the last step in your morning routine. Korean sunscreen products are pleasantly light and also work well under makeup.

What Can Stay

Not everything needs to be new. The gentle cleanser stays. The hydrating toner stays. If you use retinol in the evening, continue using it, but don't combine it with the new peel on the same night.

And if the skin feels tight on some days: a thin layer of the old winter cream over the gel, only on the dry areas. Skincare can be flexible.

The Timeline at a Glance

  • Week 1 and 2: Introduce lighter moisturizer, keep the rest unchanged
  • Week 3: Add mild peeling, once or twice a week
  • Week 4: Add antioxidant serum in the morning
  • From now on and permanently: SPF 50 every morning

Four weeks for the transition may seem long. Your skin will reward the patience with a calm, clear complexion. Rushing it rarely works well.
